03.07.2010 - Finding LIFE: The Approved

For the moment Paul whose words have been intense takes a breath, invites us to sit down, and says “you have found great treasure, you possess a magnificent Gospel, you carry the presence of Christ.” Don’t let it go! To listen now, click HERE!

03.14.2010 - Finding LIFE: Capital ‘C’Conviction

So do apostles walk on water? Only when they are with Jesus! But, when they take their eyes off of him and place it on themselves, gravity quickly kicks into gear. Two apostles come face-to-face in an atmosphere where confidence in the Gospel is being lost to the hypocrisy of a church leader. We are designed to live with the confidence of faith in Christ for our salvation 24/7. In this message the Apostle Paul steps forward with what we call “Capital ‘C’ Conviction. (Galatians 2:11-21) To hear the full lesson click HERE.

03.21.2010 - Finding LIFE: Illusion

"I thought” are the words of illusion quickly followed by “WOW!” It is a time of false certainty for those at church. Their foundation for spiritual confidence was shifting toward disaster and they seem aloof from reality. Onto the scene arrives Paul uttering a demonstrative “What happened?” And then ushering them through a biographical and theological moment of reflection which should at least have them breaking out the photo album of their conversion and conviction. "Living an Illusion” is a journey to somewhere. Galatians 3:1-14 offers the topography of their spirits and God’s intent. To listen or download now, click HERE.

04.04.2010 - Finding LIFE: In Search of a MORNING

The news banner running across the screen is clear and stunning -- The Tomb is Empty! This story resonating around the globe on Easter Sunday declares the news of the morning; the Good News of freedom, deliverance, healing, and other sought for outcomes through the desperation of a father for a son, and the willingness of Jesus to be the dawn of a new day. Their need is the need of us all. And their journey is our own. We come in search of the Morning! (Mark 9:14-32). To listen or download now, click HERE.

04.18.2010 - Finding LIFE: The Case of the Missing Joy

“Can anyone tell me where the joyless line begins?” Paul knows where it begins, he just does not understand why anyone would rush to stand in it. Isn’t there enough unhappiness in the world without adding to it? In “The Case of the Missing Joy” we discover the joy instilled by the Gospel and how such joy inspires living. Yet, remarkably, this joy which lifts spirits out of emptiness is sometimes abandoned for old life habits. Life in the Spirit once again becomes life based on our own ability to achieve. Paul compares it to a baby returning to the womb? Curiosity peaked? Listen in!! (Galatians 4:8-20)

04.25.2010 - Finding LIFE: The Breath of Freedom

Most of us make a point to breathe each day. Actually, if we stop to think about it there is likely a problem. It’s just automatic. With the same natural feel we are to breathe the air of the spiritual freedom we have in Christ. As Paul integrates the story of Abraham and the story of Christian faith we are reminded of our freedom in Christ and how that forms our own life and that of the community of faith. What is the alternative? Self-destruction! Allow Galatians 4:21-5:15 to unfold under the banner of “The Breath of Freedom.” Listen in!

04.25.2010 - Finding LIFE: "Lifestyle"

Grab your tennis shoes and let’s go for a walk through the park. This becomes the physical setting for understanding a lifestyle delivering fullness and anticipation. While we feel the urge to place our confidence in personal ability to attain spiritual satisfaction, we know all such efforts end in frustration; because they take us on a caustic path. But, the path of the Spirit infuses life within us and creates a cruciform community of believers. On our journey Paul answers the question how can a community of people with deep convictions avoid the human tendency to break out into a cage fight tournament – Life in the Spirit. Grab the Word and open to Galatians 5:16-26 as we consider “Lifestyle.”

05.09.2010 - Mothers' Day: "Heart to Heart"

All across America Mother’s Day becomes a day of fun, appreciation, and fond remembrance. Filled with surprises and anticipated joys many will make their way to church where they will don flowers, receive gifts, and hear words admitting the obvious – moms make the world go around. We join the fray of activity to recognize the unique picture of God a mom brings. Through the heart of a mom we see the heart of God. (Luke 7:11-17). Listen!

05.16.2010 - Finding LIFE: They Call It Family

This morning we follow Paul through a journey into family. Understanding the dynamics of how families carry their mutual obligations to each other and remain focused on core beliefs which continue transforming their lives comes through a series of images portrayed as conversations. See the family. Experience the family. Be the family. (Galatians 6) Listen.

05.23.2010 - I Am Jonah, Part 1

The first of two sermons uncovering the real motivations behind Jonah's acceptance of God's call to go tell the Ninevites about their impending doom, if they refuse to see that Jonah's God is the ONLY God. Gary Albritton, Youth & Family Minister is our speaker for this two-part series, so listen in!

05.30.2010 - I Am Jonah, Part 2

The second of two sermons uncovering the real motivations behind Jonah's acceptance of God's call to go tell the Ninevites about their impending doom, if they refuse to see that Jonah's God is the ONLY God. Youth & Family Minister Gary Albritton, shows how WE are called to GO to those He wants to save, that it's not OUR decision and how we can learn to see others through God's eyes, so listen in!

01.03.2010 - New Creation: Time to Relate

Relationship is the theme at Westhill in 2010: a relationship delivered by Christ and lived out by us. In contrast to the conditioning of our society to search for a full and complete life through career, people, etc.; Jesus packages a complete life in a relationship with God. In this sermon we listen to Jesus pray and rise inspired to live out our purpose. So, open to John 17:1-5 and watch six relational icons emerge.  To listen now, click HERE.

01.10.2010 - New Creation:  Towel with an Ear

Is there a place for a towel in the church today? Sure! Kitchen! Bathroom! How about the pew? And, what about carrying it as everyday equipment for the everyday Christian? Curious?! Listen in as we walk with Paul and break out a towel with an ear attached. Sit, relax, and allow the words of 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 to come tumbling out. To listen now, click HERE.

01.17.2010 - New Creation:  Cleaning up the Mess, Part 1

Have you noticed how messy church can be? The only ones who haven’t are the ones who play hooky consistently. And yet even they have a few stories. One would think if church is done right anywhere it would be in close proximity to where Jesus once walked and where the Apostles worshipped, but even there trouble arises. Yes, the home church, Jerusalem is prime for a conflict resolution seminar. So, let the breeze of insight turn the pages to Acts 6:1-7, listen in, watch the fireworks, and see the Spirit of God at work.   To listen now, click HERE.

01.31.2010 - New Creation:  All About Community

Admit it, we all do it; we come to a listing of names in Scripture and default to fast forward. While some names are clearly significant others must have been important to their mothers, but for us, well let’s get to words which matter. This morning we deny the default and listen to a listing of the names of believers at Rome (Romans 16:1-16) and the pictures on the wall representing the named people. Perhaps the words which don’t matter do matter. Perhaps the pictures with those names are really the unfolding of a story of community we need to see and hear. In this sermon it is “All About Community.”   To listen now, click HERE

02.07.2010 - New Creation:  A Garden Wedding

I’m a preacher without a green thumb, as they say, but nevertheless appreciate the Garden as the place of beginnings. It was in the Garden the first couple metaphorically walked the aisle and it is to the Garden we see the value of every human life as created in the image of God. So, this morning as we recognize our babies born in 2009 along with their families, we return to the first Garden (Genesis 1:27-31) as the place where marriage is valued as the design of God and our children reflect the image of God reborn. To listen now, click HERE

02.14.2010 - New Creation: Marriage When the Garden is Full of Weeds

Like a story written for today the first couple have lost their home and are trying to reestablish their career under new conditions. No more debate on where to position the reclining rock in the Garden, or which tree would best position the family photo when guests come over. Now the drive centers on living into this new reality – a redemptive course. (Genesis 4:1-2)  To listen now, click HERE!

02.21.2010 - New Creation: Finding Your Song Again

Two causative verbs shape the picture of the Psalm “I caused to keep silent, and “I will cause to make known.” From denial to confession we track the worshiper as he learns such a morphing of the heart is critical for experiencing the life of God and singing of deliverance. So, listen to the worshiper sing his song and perhaps you will find your own song again. (Psalm 32) To listen now, click HERE.

02.28.2010 - New Creation: The Associate

The Associate takes us into the world of the reconciled. Through Christ God has cleaned up our life and called us into a relationship with Him. Now we see our world differently, including the people closest to us. And we see God’s purpose for our life. The God who worked His reconciliation through Christ is to still making His appeal through us – The Associate! (2 Corinthians 5:16-21) To listen, click HERE.

10/11/2009 - Looking Past US

Our hope should be to release people who know the freedom of faith. A key quality
allowing Jesus to see and us to see others is the ability to look past ourselves!  To listen, click here

10/4/2009 - OUT of the Pews and INTO the Streets

Can we be Christians without pews and church buildings?

Ridiculous question?

Perhaps! But, if it is ridiculous why do we feel so contented with just “going to church?” Ray Stevens sang about a church unusually revived from a staid state at the insanity of a squirrel on the loose. The song acknowledges the obvious, we come to church expecting to relax and sleep, and someone unwittingly unleashes on us a stirring fury. And the response is LIFE. “Being a Church Without Walls” is a reaction to understanding our God is a missionary God and we are instruments of service in His hands.

As God’s instruments to accomplish God’s mission we carry His presence to lives where suffering reigns, demons tread, and renewal happens.

10/18/2009 - Submission

The fractured character of the world experiences the possibility of spiritual wholeness through the elect of God. Let’s journey together as we celebrate what it means to have a living hope and what it means to carry that living hope to the community. When the church sees herself as spreading throughout the community rather than removed from the community, then we find the victory shouts to an active God become a routine activity. 11/29/2009 - WALK OF THE THANKFUL : Places of Gratitude

The dining table in the home was traditionally a place where families found common ground to keep up with daily lives and build family relationships for tomorrow. It was a place where the gratitude of the home found a symbol to remind every member of their blessings. Just as families gather around a table at home we gather around a table in Christian assemblies. Through the lens of Psalm 116 different hearts come to the same table and together harmonize in a song of thanksgiving. The message of the meal is you are welcome to come and know personally this story and celebrate these benefits. At this table there is room.  To listen, click HERE!

12/06/2009 - Walk of the Thankful: Rituals of Gratitude

So, when does a ritual become so routine it loses meaning? Several activities in the Christian assembly might be placed under this microscope, but Communion could certainly be measured by the question. Reaching back to the Psalms we rediscover a dimension to Communion often lost. As worshipers offered thanksgiving sacrifices to God they did so recognizing a covenantal relationship with Him. Together we will meet at the table, break out Psalm 50, and find refreshment in the covenant forming us as His people. To listen now, click HERE!

12/20/2009 - Walk of the Thankful: Pictures of Gratitude

Every home comes equipped with a photo album of people, places, and events. We open Matthew’s album to reminisce through the collection of photos unveiling the journey of the Magi to see baby Jesus (Matthew 2:1-12). Here the unveiling of God’s unfolding care opens the pages to man’s continued story: a story where the promised child changes humanity. To listen now, click HERE!

12/27/2009 - Recalculating: Are We On

the Right Road?

Special sermon by Gary Albritton, Youth and Family Minister at Westhill Church, as we prepare for a new year: Is our spiritual GPS steering us in the right direction, and if so, are we listening?  To listen now, click HERE!
